Remit & Strategy

Our Remit

• We celebrate and promote grassroots work that would otherwise not be acknowledged and would not happen in the first place, or be further fostered, without our help.
• We are a good governance, tax efficient vehicle that efficiently - without taking a penny away on admin - delivers donor money to grassroots NGOs in countries that our network of experienced supporters identify as having an urgent and justified need.
• In short, we are the face and voice of all the grassroots women who don’t have the knowledge or don’t have the resources to reach potential donors.

Our proposition

The Gender Rights & Equality Action Trust, a charity foundation incorporated in the UK, will work in partnership with Femmes Africa Solidarité (FAS), a respected African NGO, whose outstanding achievements have been praised by the AU, the UN and the EU, to identify gender-related projects that GREAT will commit to support - both in terms of raising awareness and directly contributing funds.

These projects focus not just on business development and education for women, but also on training women to take part in the political process and, importantly, peace processes (thus fostering women into local and national government).

Our ethos

By working in partnership with FAS – an African charity, run by African women for African women, GREAT can ensure a genuine and positive impact – after all, they know better than anyone what needs to be done at grassroots level. We believe that our best strategy is to empower and enable African women to take the lead on such projects, rather than international NGOs forging their vision from afar in ways that have little or no nexus to the experience on the ground.

The GREAT Initiative seeks to become a coalition focus point for women gender groups around the world, gathering international support to make a unique and forceful statement that the African Union ‘Decade of Women’ has started – and that gender equality must be achieved as a priority.
