The GREAT Initiative Launch Event

The GREAT Initiative will launch in London on 19 May 2011 in the magnificent surroundings of the new ultra-luxury hotel, The Corinthia, in Whitehall.

160 high-profile guests will be attending, comprising a fabulous mix of celebrities as well as leading figures from the political, charitable, business, and artistic sectors. With attendance secured solely via personal invitation from our trustees, The Gender Rights & Equality Action Trust will be guaranteeing the most exclusive guest list.

An indulgent evening

It promises to be a fabulous evening, beginning with a champagne and canapés reception in the exquisite setting of the Corinthia’s super Massimo’s Restaurant - with canapés designed and created by Massimo himself, an accomplished Italian chef famed for his obsession with fish and seafood.

Ushered through to the stunning ballroom, guests will be treated to an unforgettable performance from Mark Knopfler. Mark is best known as the lead guitarist, vocalist and songwriter for the British rock band Dire Straits, which has now sold over 120 million albums worldwide - and has won numerous awards including three BRITs, four Grammys and two MTV Awards.

Dinner, prepared by Corinthia’s Executive Chef Garry Hollihead, will then be served. Garry has won Michelin Stars for 3 individual restaurants and has masterminded a wealth of high profile events.

Thanks to the generous donations of friends and supporters, we have gathered amazing and unique donations both for the live and silent auctions. All lots and donors are listed in the Auction page.

All funds raised during the evening will go towards FAS’s PanAfrican Centre for Gender, Peace and Development and specific projects on the ground.
