The GREAT/FAS African Gender Awards: The Future

The GREAT Initiative is both proud and excited to be working with Femmes Africa Solidarité to raise the profile of the FAS African Gender Award, and to include six other prizes recognising positive change across all tiers of African society.

The new GREAT awards are:

1. The GREAT World Leadership Award, in recognition of the world leader, or their spouse, doing the most to improve women’s circumstances in Africa.
2. The GREAT Business Award, in recognition of the head of an African business doing the most for women in its employment, or most benefiting women in society in general.
3. The GREAT Conflict Resolution Award, in recognition of an individual or organisation having achieved particular success in this most crucial area.
4. The GREAT Humanitarian Award, in recognition of the individual or organisation with a proven record of consistent focus on issues (particularly health and education) in Africa most impacting upon women’s lives.
5. The GREAT ‘On-The-Ground’ Award, in recognition of direct work in communities, by an individual from that community.
6. The GREAT ‘Mother Earth’ Award, in recognition of the individual or organisation whose initiatives to tackle climate change improve the lives of women and communities most.

A wide media strategy, particularly in the UK, France and Africa in the first instance, will be put in place for our message to resonate strongly.
